Ports and TIPC
Taiwan, surrounded by ocean, is rich in marine resources. Since ancient times, sea route has long been an essential way of daily transportation. Various goods are carried in and out through the ports. Currently all international commercial ports in Taiwan are managed by Taiwan International Ports Corporation Ltd. (TIPC).

TIPC was established in 2012, formerly “Port Bureau” under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. TIPC manages seven international commercial ports including Port of Keelung, Port of Taichung, Port of Kaohsiung, Port of Hualien, Port of Taipei, Port of Suao, and Port of Anping.

TIPC dedicates itself to enhancing port efficiency through continuous advancement of port facilities. Besides, Port of Kaohsiung and Port of Keelung are chosen specifically as the two home ports for cruise liners. TIPC promotes cruise travel to provide everybody another choice of traveling other than airplane travel.

Green and Sustainable Port
To make our ports sustainable, it is very important to protect the environment while pursuing economic benefits. Therefore, we provide initiative for ship operators to slow down as they enter and leave the ports to further reduce pollution. In addition, we participate in the internationally-recognized “Eco Ports Certification” program to set up an environmental autonomous management system. For now, all of our 7 international commercial ports have been accredited as Eco Port.

Do you notice the big windmills standing nearby the port area? That is “Onshore wind turbines”. Ports are not only where land transportation and sea transportation converges but the sea wind around the harbor area can be utilized to generate electricity!

Besides onshore wind turbines, the offshore wind power presents itself as a new business opportunity for TIPC. Recently, to keep up with the green energy policy by our government, TIPC starts to develop the port facilities for offshore wind industry. Offshore wind farm where big wind turbines stand rolls after rolls at sea, can generate more power from the stronger sea wind, making the best use of the gift from nature - wind.
